Behind the Scenes of Issue 9

This week I had to dig through 2000+ posts (on r/mk only) again. This is not something sustainable, so I made dedicated scripts to automate some tasks and analyse what happens in the sub. This latter has a lot of potential.

This week I had to dig through 2000+ posts (on r/mk only) again. This is not something sustainable, so I made dedicated scripts to automate some tasks and analyse what happens in the sub. This latter has a lot of potential.

Anyway, I could achieve a lot of my goals in the recent days. (At least in regards of this magazine.)

Some features implemented this week:

  • Custom right sidebar with new functions.
  • Covers on the homepage and in the sidebar.
  • Archive to access back issues.
  • Patreon link in the sidebar.
  • Newsletter subscription in the sidebar.
  • Link to voting on the magazine page.
  • New cover design.
  • r/mk importer: Half-automated entry submission (reddit-KBD integration to prefill the entry upload form).
  • Reddit sub analyser to make some stats (all post per week, daily/hourly distribution of posts and visitors, etc.)

The r/mk importer feature will make processing and uploading the posts considerably easier. With prefilling the upload form, most input fields are automatically inserted in their final form. Updating some, selecting appropriate tags and cropping the photos is all I have to do manually.

Sub analyzer: As it turns out, the Reddit API doesn't allow the listing of posts prior to the 1000th one. Thus, to summarize the week I'll have to run my script every few days.

Upcoming features:

  • Cover collage styles.
  • New tag system (quicker).

Well, these were some tidbits from the editorial room this week, I hope you liked them.

Thanks for any feedback! I hope you enjoyed this issue. See you next week!
